A Busy Week for St. Catherine’s AC

Cork City Marathon

A yellow weather warning was issued for Munster on the bank holiday Monday but that did not dampen spirits of all those taking part. St. Catherine’s were represented in all 3 races, the marathon, the half marathon and the relay. The highlight on the day is without doubt John Beechers time of 2:48, a well deserved personal best which earned him a fantastic 21st place in the marathon. Well done John & to all who represented the club on the day.

Tallow 5K
The club supported the tallow community council 5K fun run/ walk which took place on 30th May. First man home was our own Frank Hayes; first lady home was Caoimhe Hayes in a time of 22:23 mins. The first junior athlete home was also from St. Catherine’s, Neasha Whelan. Well done to all our athletes.

A total of 411 runners took part in this event which again this year was extremely well run and all money raised went to the very worthy Emer Casey Foundation. Kevin Hayes was the 1st athlete home in an impressive 14th position. Our other athletes that took part were Alan Carr, Aidan Barry, Patricia Barry, Catherine Clancy Mike Walsh, Georgina Cunningham, Fiona Fitzgerald and Lisa Jones

Ballycotton 10 – 2015

The 38th Annual Ballycotton 10 mile road race took place last Sunday 8th March in glorious spring sunshine. Large crowds gathered from early morning in the beautiful fishing village in East Cork for this much anticipated race. The weather played its part in creating a great atmosphere for this well run event. St. Catherines had 9 athlete’s competing on the day, a smaller than usual number due to injuries. Mike Byrne finished in under 1 hour and also finished in the top 100 athletes home. Both John Beecher, Kevin Hayes and had excellent runs also and finished in the top 200. Our other participants on the day were Catherine Clancy, Alan Carr, Aidan & Patricia Barry and Colin & Georgina Cunningham. Well done to all and also a word of thanks to all those who supported our athletes on the day.

Congratulations to Meghan Carr who recently took part in the indoor track & field championship’s in Nenagh. Meghan competed in many events on the day and achieved a personal best of 4.39m in the long jump, winning her a bronze medal and earning her a place in the Nationals.

As part of the ongoing development of our club and attempting to improve services for our athletes, we have purchased a defibrillator which is located in the club house rooms in Conna Community field. A training course in CPR and AED was completed by coaches and members of our club, St. Catherines GAA and local schools, last Saturday 7th March.
