Conna 5k
St. Catherine’s AC held their second 5k road race in wonderful weather conditions onThursday 31st July. A total of 227 runners took part in a very well organised event which involved running through the village, past the sports field and commencing a tough challenging 2nd mile. Monty’s Pass and his four legged stable companions have found this stretch a challenge! The final 1.5km is mostly downhill, flat and fast. Congratulations to Tim O’Connor (Riocht AC), Con Marshall (St. Finbarr’s AC) and Frank Hayes (East Cork AC) the first three men home respectively. In the ladies category congratulations goes to Ann-Marie Holland (St. Finbarr’s AC), Evelyn Caphman (Youghal AC) and Clotilde Fitzgibbon (Grange-Fermoy AC), 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In studying the field of runners taking part it was noted that many were running in their first road race, so let’s hope it has given people an appetite to continue, most 5K road races would not be quiet as tough as the Conna 5K. Many runners improved their times from last year, some by as much as 4 minutes which is a fantastic personal achievement.
Thank you to all who took part, helped in any way, supported and sponsored the 5K.
Congratulations to Meghan
Congratulations to Meghan Carr, our only athlete to take part in the recent National Juvenile Athletics Championships in Tullamore. Meghan took part in a very competitive U12s Long Jump competition where the winning jump was 4.43m and the following 7 girls were within 46 cm. Despite jumping close to her personal best, Meghan was a little outside a medal position. Well done Meghan for representing the club so well!
