ST CATHERINE’S ATHLETIC CLUB MOURN THE LOSS OF A KEY MEMBER.

It was with great sadness that members of our club assembled outside the church in Conna to form a Guard of Honour for the late Catherine Leahy Dingivan, last Friday evening. Following a brief illness borne with incredible strength and dignity this beautiful person who touched all of our hearts was heartbreakingly on her journey to being laid to rest.

Catherine was a true treasure of our club and a key committee member both at Juvenile and Senior Level. St. Catherine’s AC began to develop about five years ago, since then Catherine played a central with our junior members, her bright positive spirit was always to the fore namely in the form of her fabulous smile and her sharp wit not to mention all the unassuming work she carried out which some of us know little about. At senior level Catherine always and unselfishly made herself available to record results, clock time trials as well as attending county board meetings once a month. The loss to us and our community is palpable however at this time our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with Catherine’s family.

“Catherine may you rest in peace our thoughts will always be with you”.

On Sunday (27th Oct) some of our club members travelled to Limerick Race Course for the Munster Juvenille Even age Cross Country Championships. Leila Carr was first to the start line for the club (U10 Girls). In what was a very demanding course Leila showed great potential and finished well. Next out was Leyla’s sister Meghan (U12 girls) who powered home with the club’s first medal of the day winning an individual Munster silver as well as Gold for team placing. James Hayes and  Ciarán O Brien (U12 boys) both showed true strength and determination. James ran a very strong race and has continued to improve all season. Ciarán gave everything he had finished 11th , received an individual Munster medal as well as gold for team placing. Caoimhe and Laura Hayes (U14 girls) both ran a wonderful race. Caoimhe showed consistency and strength throughout. Laura blistered into the chute winning and individual bronze as well as a silver medal for team placing. Laura, Ciarán and Meghan will now represent Munster at the All Ireland’s on Nov 17th in Dublin. To all our competitors on the day well done! Well done also to two of our club members who competed in the Dublin City Marathon, Mike and John- hope the lactic acid is subsiding!
