East Cork T&F Championships – Day 1

Sunday 7th April saw a cold and windy day in Youghal for the first day of the East Cork Track and Field championships. Despite this, St. Catherine’s A.C. had a strong turnout of athletes who were rewarded with good personal performances and medals, right from the novelty events for the U7s through to the U16s.

Congratulations to all who took part and represented their club.

Juvenile Training moves outdoors

The new track and field season is fast approaching and training is back in full swing. After spending the first two months indoors doing core work and basic skills of running, jumping and throwing we have moved outdoors and revert back to Monday and Thursdays in Conna Community Field from 7 to 8pm. Steve is also giving a night in Ballynoe hall for high jump only. New members are welcome, just come along and give it a go.

Little Athletics continues in Conna Hall on  Monday nights where the leaders are doing a great job with the younger children (5 to 8 year olds). They will move to the field at the start of April.

Great Club Representation in Ballycotton

On Sunday 3rd March thousands of runners made their way to the picturesque seaside village of Ballycotton for the 36th Ballycotton 10 mile road race. The historic race is a milestone on the annual road race calendar and a cool dry day with only a light breeze to contend with made for good running conditions overall for the athletes taking part. At 1:30pm the traditional Ballycotton 10 song rang out across the village and moments later droves of eager runners filled the main street cheered on by family and friends.

This year saw a great turnout from St Catherines AC with 9 athletes from the growing senior club taking part. It was encouraging to see the men’s team of Michael Byrne, Shane Fitzgerald, Kevin Hayes, Aidan Hogan and Edmond Galvin all safely cross the line in under 70 minutes. There was also a strong showing from the ladies team with Annette Fitzgerald, Patricia Barry, Elaine Mulcahy and Faith Noonan all putting in a great effort on the day. Well done to everyone who ran.

Ballycotton 10

The 36th Ballycotton ’10’ roadrace takes place on Sunday March 3th 2013. Start time 1.30pm. Best of luck to all the St Catherine’s A.C athletes taking part.
