Juvenile Training moves outdoors to Conna Pitch

Juvenile training has now moved outdoors to the Conna Pitch on Monday and Thursday evenings, 7pm to 8pm. Monday training sessions will be split into two halves allowing each athlete to try two different events. Thursdays will be used for more concentrated training where each athlete will be asked to choose just one event from those taking place that evening.  We hope that those who wish to take part in competitions this year will use Thursdays to increase their fitness and skill in their chosen events.

LITTLE ATHLETICS REMAINS in Conna Hall, Mondays, 7pm to 8pm until further notice.

We have drawn upon the support and assistance of many people throughout the year in order to pursue our various activities, many of which would not have been possible without people generously giving their time.

We hope you all have a Happy Christmas and return to us in the New Year ready for a new season of athletics!

Laura wins our first All Ireland Medal

Congratulations to Laura Hayes who recently represented Cork in the National Juvenile Cross Country championships in Sligo. Laura was the third person home in the her team which enabled them to achieve team silver. Laura has consistently trained hard and raced well this season and deserves her medal, the first National medal for the club, either in recent years or in the previous form of the club.

International Athlete

In the same weekend as Laura won her medal, her father Frank, our coach and chairman,  represented Ireland in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country championships in Scotland. Frank’s tremendous form in recent races continued at this event where his position contributed to the Irish Men’s Over 40s team winning bronze medal.  The Hayes family “broke” all kinds of records that weekend.

Olympic Training Session with Robert and Marian Heffernan

The club was recently privileged to have 2012 Olympic qualifiers Robert and Marian Heffernan lead a training session.  Together with their colleague Dermot Mcdermot they gave us some excellent coaching in race walking, sprinting and middle distance running. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and concluded with a our Chairman Frank Hayes presenting the couple with a photo frame into which a group photo of the session was to be added.  Thank you Robert, Marian and Dermot.
